The most wonderful time of the year has arrived!  

Christmas in and around West End is truly something to behold, with streets coming alive with lights, and homes decked out in festive decorations as the sound of Christmas music fills the air. Whether you’re a Pradella resident or a West End local, there’s no shortage of holiday cheer to enjoy this December. 

So, gather your loved ones, pop on your most festive outfits, turn up the Chrissy tunes and get ready for a month packed with joy and celebration. From festive markets to carol-filled nights, there’s something special for everyone to experience.  

Here’s your guide to the must-do events that will make this Christmas season simply unforgettable. 

 

Lord Mayor’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree  

Kicking off the Christmas season in style, the Lord Mayor’s lighting of the Christmas tree is an iconic Brisbane tradition you won’t want to miss. Set in the heart of the city, this family favourite features a stunning light display, with Santa and his helpers dancing around the tree to spread extra cheer. Plus, a special performance by Australian singer and songwriter Dami Im will make this evening truly memorable. 

Join Brisbane Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner for this magical occasion and get started on your own festive decorations!

West End Christmas Twilight Markets 

The Christmas festivities in West End are kicking off with a bang! Head down to Davies Park for an evening of live entertainment, delicious food stalls, and the chance to meet Santa himself. This is a must-attend for locals and a perfect way to shop for unique gifts while soaking in the Christmas spirit.

A Whimsical, Wonderful Christmas  

Are you ready to sing, dance and marvel at this wonderful Christmas parade? The Main Stage in Queen Street Mall will come alive for three incredible nights with festive delight. With shows at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm) on 8, 15 and 22 December, there’s plenty of Christmas spirit to go around. No bookings required – just show up and let the festivities begin. 

When: 8 – 22 December 2024.

Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols  

Jingle all the way to Riverstage to celebrate the season with the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols. This heartwarming event is packed with all the traditional carols you know and love, bringing the magic of the holiday season to life. And the best part? Kids under 18 can join in for free! Tickets go on sale at 10 am on Tuesday 12th December, for just $5. 

When: 7 December 2024, 4pm – 9pm.

Elf’s Tiny Doors Workshop  

If you’re in the mood for some festive creativity, head over to Elf’s Tiny Doors Workshop. Tiny, Christmas-themed doors will pop up all over the city, and you can join the fun by creating and decorating your own at Queen Street Mall. Take your creation home and maybe even spot some of these little doors around town!

A Christmas Carol  

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Brisbane without this award-winning performance returning to the Playhouse stage this December. This beloved holiday classic brings music, humour and a heartwarming dose of festive joy to the stage. It’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy.

The Nutcracker  

No matter if you’re a seasoned ballet lover or just in it for the magic, this enchanting performance is a must-see this Christmas. The Nutcracker has been captivating audiences across the globe for more than a century and will transport you into a world of sugarplum fairies, mischievous mice and brave nutcracker soldiers. Santa Photos and Mrs Claus Storytime  

Santa has made the long journey all the way from the North Pole for a special holiday visit at Streets Beach, South Bank. This is your chance to snap a festive photo with Santa by the beach, adding a sunny Aussie twist to your Christmas memories.

South Bank Nightly Christmas Parade 

Ho ho ho – it’s time to join in the holiday fun at the South Bank Christmas Parade. Watch as your favourite holiday characters come to life, singing, dancing and spreading Christmas cheer through South Bank. With dazzling costumes, festive tunes, and plenty of holiday magic, this is an event the whole family will love. Plus, with the parade happening every night from 14 – 22 December, you’ve got plenty of chances to join in the celebration!

South Bank Open Air Christmas Cinema  

Picture this: your favourite Christmas classics on the big screen, under the stars, with the Brisbane city skyline and river sparkling in the background. What could be better? South Bank’s Open Air Christmas Cinema is the ultimate way to relax and enjoy the holiday season. Grab a spot on the grass, kick back and enjoy a lineup of Christmas classics each night – it’s just like a holiday move marathon under the stars.  

Be sure to arrive early for the live music from 4pm to 7pm and also to grab a bite from one of the food trucks before the movie begins.

South Bank Christmas Maze  

Ready for an adventure? The South Bank Christmas Maze is fun for all ages. Navigate your way through the maze and enjoy the holiday magic along the way. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at South Bank Piazza.

Spirit of Christmas
